Job Description

Position Summary:

The Public Programs Coordinator supports Women, Arts, and Social Change (WASC), the museum’s new public program initiative focused on women and the arts as catalysts for change. Programming under the new initiative includes the Fresh Talk series—curated conversations and special events featuring women artists, designers, and innovators—and Cultural Capital Sessions—programmatic collaborations related to the museum’s mission to champion women through the arts.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate public programs for adults, including managing internal and external communications, booking travel and accommodations, handling event logistics with partners and vendors, overseeing program budgets, and processing related purchase orders
  • Manage production of program-related print and digital promotions
  • Develop creative strategies for onsite and online audience engagement for public programs
  • Document and evaluate public programs
  • Work with the digital team to input website content and utilize social media for public programs
  • Write program content for grant proposals and reports
  • Train and oversee public program interns and volunteers
  • Represent the museum at related community events and participate in other projects as needed

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: The position requires a graduate degree in a related field with at least 3 years of experience presenting public programs or at least 5 years of varied experience in event coordination, public relations, and executive level administrative support, with the following skills:

  • Superior oral and written communication
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work weekend and evening hours a few times per month
  • Technical savvy in social media, Microsoft Office, and Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Experience working with cause-related organizations and groups preferred
  • Audience development, program evaluation, and grant writing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style editorial guidelines preferred
