The Snite Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame, seeks an experienced curator of African art to oversee the exhibition, interpretation, and documentation of its African art collection.

This is a twenty-four-month position, beginning approximately November 1, 2015. There will be three primary responsibilities:

1) The curator will organize a permanent exhibition of the Snite Museum’s African art collection, which will be installed during the summer of 2017 within a 1,200 square-foot gallery. The selected individual will consult with the director, with the curators of education, and with representatives of the Department of Africana Studies to develop exhibition themes and to implement interpretive strategies for diverse audiences. (K-12 and university students will enjoy education programs focusing on the African art exhibition.) The curator will prepare copy for exhibition labels and text panels.

3) The curator will also refine and complete some Embark database records for Snite Museum African artworks. A gift of approximately 1,000 African artworks was never fully cataloged because of the prolonged illness and passing of the prior curator.

This curator will report to the director.
