Visitor Services Assistant

This position is responsible for independently staffing the information desk/bookstore, ensuring a welcoming tone is established for visitors emphasizing support of the artistic and educational mission of the museum. The Assistant facilitates a pleasant experience for visitors by providing information about the Gallery’s collections, exhibitions, and events, as well as information about New Haven. Required: Flexible and friendly team player with a professional phone manner and the ability to work well with people in stressful situations. Professional appearance and manner combined with a high standard of customer service. Knowledge of art history with the ability to answer general questions about the works on view and direct visitors to the appropriate installations. Willingness to acquire greater knowledge of the Gallery’s collection, exhibitions, and publications. Preferred: Degree in art or art history. Two years of museum work with affection for the Gallery and New Haven and a desire to spread the same feeling to others. Face-to-face customer service experience. Retail experience using LightSpeed Point of Sale. Minimum of two years of customer service and retail experience. Experience using video and audio equipment.
