Job Description

The Roosevelt Institute seeks an experienced and dedicated development professional to manage the Roosevelt Institute’s fundraising efforts for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum.

The Director will implement and help develop a broad strategy for the Library’s development activities. Reporting formally to the CEO of the Roosevelt Institute and working closely both programmatically and strategically with the Director of the FDR Library, he/she will oversee and execute all aspects of fundraising activities for the Library including; the cultivation, stewardship and direct solicitation of individual and institutional gifts; and Trustee management. The Director will also assist in planning and executing fundraising, stewardship and cultivation events; and conduct prospect research.

Designed by Franklin Roosevelt and dedicated on June 30, 1941, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is the nation’s first presidential library and the only one used by a sitting president. Every president since FDR has followed his example and established a presidential library administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. The Roosevelt Library’s mission is to foster a deeper understanding of the lives and times of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and their continuing impact on contemporary life. This work is carried out through the Library’s archives and research room, museum collections and exhibitions, innovative educational programs, and engaging public programming.

The Library is overseen and administered by the National Archives and Records Administration, while the Library’s fundraising efforts are supported by its non-profit partner, the Roosevelt Institute.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Library Director on implementing a broad fundraising strategy to increase donor acquisition, donor retention, and upgrades
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward lead annual gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Conduct multiple face-to-face visits each month
  • Assist the Library Director in engaging, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding the Library’s Trustees
  • Conduct prospect research
  • Help maintain and grow an existing Library membership program
  • Help plan fundraising, steward ship and cultivation events
  • Design, prepare, and distribute print and electronic appeals

Qualifications

  • 4 – 6 years of related experience with a strong emphasis on individual giving
  • Ability to work with high level corporate and government officials
  • Direct experience with corporate or foundation giving
  • Fluency with social media and digital communications tools
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Outgoing positive personality with strong work ethic
  • Ability to work occasional evening /weekend hours
  • Interest in history preferred
