Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, this key position is part of MIM’s senior leadership team and is responsible for meeting contributed revenue goals by developing and implementing a comprehensive giving program including annual, major, and planned giving.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, execute, and manage annual and long-range plans to meet specific fundraising goals, objectives, and timelines.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to create a strategic roadmap for fundraising that identifies key targets within individual, major, corporate, foundation, and planned giving constituencies.
  • Identify, cultivate, plan, and participate in major donor cultivation and solicitation, involving senior leadership in the process as appropriate.
  • Chair and oversee the activities of the Development committee that includes board and advisory board members.
  • Liaise and report on the activities of the Nominating committee responsible for vetting potential advisory board candidates.
  • Meet or exceed fundraising and development targets. Participate in the development of future strategic operating and capital plans. Develop other key metrics and targets to monitor MIM’s philanthropic activity.
  • Oversee donor stewardship and recognition, including gift acknowledgments, pledge payment notifications, and donor signage and lists.
  • Initiate and oversee donor cultivation events, exhibition openings, tours, fundraising luncheons, concert previews, and other donor related events.
  • Project MIM’s annual contributed income and departmental expenses and track actuals throughout the year.
  • Work closely and strategically with the Corporate Relations Manager to secure corporate sponsorships for events, theater performances, exhibits, and other opportunities.
  • Prepare reports of institutional advancement activities and accomplishments for the board of directors, MIM’s Advisory board, and internal leadership meetings.
  • Represent and advance MIM in the community at speaking engagements and events.
  • Develop fundraising policies and best practices that ensure appropriate engagement and acknowledgement of gifts at all levels of the organization.
  • Identify fundraising and donor stewardship event opportunities, and collaborate with MIM’s internal events team to plan and execute advancement-related events.
  • Write copy for and co-manage advancement-related collateral materials with the marketing director (including annual donor report and membership brochures), website content, and e-communications.
  • Prepare remarks, letters, and proposals on behalf of the Executive Director as appropriate.
  • Develop and contribute to grant proposals and sponsorship requests as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years in a fundraising capacity in a senior leadership role and proven success   developing, motivating, and evaluating a talented team
  • Undergraduate degree required;  Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated record of exceptional leadership and management of at least one capital campaign, including direct experience in obtaining outright gifts of $1 million or more
  • In depth understanding and competency with financial targets and budget goals; Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions
  • Develops high-level strategies to achieve organizational goals while providing guidance to the advancement team on tactical approaches for success; Analyzes market and identifies external threats and opportunities; Adapts strategy to changing conditions.
