          Position description: Registrar, “Dusti Bongé Art Foundation, Inc.” http://dustibonge.org

As the sole employee of the Dusti Bongé Art Foundation, the Registrar is responsible for daily maintenance of the Foundation’s Headquarters and Gallery at the Creole Cottage, 132 Rue Magnolia, Biloxi, Mississippi 39530 and of the storage unit that contains the collection of Dusti Bongé’s work that is owned by the Foundation. Further responsibilities include management of the Foundation’s database; collection records, including object history files, rights and reproductions; organization of physical and digital files, including but not limited to archival information, financial documents and necessary official documents, e.g., Secretary of State file; report to the board at quarterly meetings; assist the Special Agent as needed; assist in planning the annual foundation budget; maintain social media presence via website, Facebook and Instagram and curate and install exhibitions held in the gallery. The Registrar ensures the Foundation’s compliance with standard museum protocols and with state and/or federal laws regarding art collections and their loan. Proficiency in Mac OS is essential. The Registrar interacts with the Board of Directors; the Foundation’s Special Agent; Dusti Bongé’s grandson, Paul Bongé; Foundation patrons and collectors, artists, museum/gallery representatives; outside contractors; city officials; volunteers; and the general public.

The candidate must be experienced in preparing art work for major exhibitions, including traveling exhibitions and have a successful history of grant writing. In addition, the candidate must be versed in art history, especially the period of mid 20th century art that includes Abstract Expressionism. The candidate must be familiar with conventions of scholarship in order to assist with research for the upcoming book about Dusti Bongé.

Job Requirements

Required: MA or more advanced degree in Museum Studies/Arts Management or extensive professional experience with museum or university gallery administration or other arts administration, collections management, including museum or academic cataloging conventions. Willingness to move to the Mississippi Gulf coast or current and continuing residence in that location See Foundation’s Mission statement following this position description Salary: Commensurate with experience/education.
