General Purpose:

Assisting the Museum Director/Chief Curator with the development, organization, installation, and promotion of exhibitions at all 21c properties.

Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for organizing and supervising rotating exhibitions generated by Museum Director at all existing and upcoming 21c Museum Hotels. Will update exhibition checklists and written materials, including exhibition labels and promotional collateral. Working with Director of Exhibition Design and Museum Managers, will create exhibition layouts. Working with Museum Registrar, confirms condition reports and loan agreements for all traveling exhibitions, and may update art inventory system to help maintain proper records. Schedules and tracks development of Museum marketing materials for all 21c Museum exhibitions, commissions, events.

– Generates and maintains exhibition schedules for all 21c properties, including traveling exhibitions curated by 21c, as well as exhibitions co-organized with other museums or galleries.

– Works with brand marketing department to create collateral and on social media. Procure, organize, and provide images of artworks and installations that may be used for publication. Responsible for providing and confirming captions and credit lines for artworks illustrated in all 21c collateral materials. As assigned by Museum Director, creates and edits accompanying written materials.

– Obtains licensing agreements for the reproduction of images of all artworks acquired and/or displayed at 21c Museum Hotels. Initiates contact with galleries representing the artist, or with the artist/s when appropriate, as approved by Museum Director.

– Works with Museum Director and Museum Managers to develop Museum programming at each property.

– Works with Museum Director to propose new exhibitions and site-specific commissioned projects for both existing and future properties.

– Works with Museum Registrar to review and update the Museum SOP to ensure best practices for safekeeping of artwork on all property.

– Gives tours to public, guests, VIPs, and others as requested, and may provide staff training on the exhibitions and art programming at all properties.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in art history or art-related field, with a minimum 3 years’ curatorial experience with a focus on 20th-21st Century art. Excellent written and verbal skills required; all candidates must submit 2-3 recent writing samples on contemporary art.
