Description

Vesterheim seeks an experienced professional as Director of Development. Vesterheim is planning a capital campaign within twenty-four months.

The Director of Development works closely with the President/CEO, the Development Staff, and the Board of Trustees. The Director of Development must be deeply committed to the mission of Vesterheim and be a spokesperson for its needs. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate Vesterheim’s goals, mission, history and vision for the future. Through both verbal and written communication the Director of Development must be able to motivate prospects to make financial and leadership commitments. The Director of Development shall be responsible for all aspects of institutional resource development including planning, preparing budgets, management and implementation of all development activities. These comprehensive activities include the implementation of a strategic approach to: Board Campaigns, Major Gifts, Endowments, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Membership, Events, Direct Mail Appeal(s), In-Kind Resources, and Planned Giving.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred; three to five years successful fundraising experience, including a credible track record of obtaining higher-level planned gifts and/or donations, involvement with capital campaigns, proven leadership ability; excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to build strong relationships with donors, trustees, volunteers, and staff members; and proficient in the use of computer applications such as: email, Word, and fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
