Founded in 1969 by the Fashion Institute of Technology, The Museum at FIT is dedicated to advancing knowledge of fashion through exhibitions, programs and publications.

Job Description:

The Assistant Media Manager is a supportive position within the Museum’s Digital Media Department, providing critical assistance to the Digital Media and Strategic Initiatives Manager to enhance and maintain the online presence of the Museum.

Duties include assisting with digital communications and social media marketing by engaging audiences with web content, social interaction, and live-tweeting events. Must be able to work some evenings. The position also includes some clerical and administrative tasks

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor , edit, maintain, and improve the MFIT web site using a CMS (Content Management System). As well as read and write page code.
  • Create and edit new and existing exhibition websites in the custom MFIT WordPress theme.
  • Participate with strategic planning for web presence and social media.
  • Assist with the management of MFIT profiles on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube and LinkedIn by posting status updates, images, videos and events.
  • Generate and moderate online conversations to deepen audience engagement, drive interest, and attract viewership using tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Post content to museum social media accounts during events.
  • Produce analytical reports using Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other social listening tools.
  • Write and build email newsletters
  • Maintain patron database
  • Provide general administrative support to the department.
  • Maintain order of electronic and paper files in the department.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, and two years of appropriate computer-based media production experience. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, creative thinking, problem-solving, and strong multi-tasking capabilities. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in web communications and social media management so as to maintain a consistent voice and brand for the Museum across a variety of web platforms. The applicant must demonstrate abilities with various web tools, applications and languages.Photography/filming skills a plus.

Experience/Skills

  • Proven experience on the major social media sites is essential. Should understand best practices of scheduling, tagging, friending, and following.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to write for varied contexts, such as marketing, education, and social media.
  • Proficiency with html and css necessary.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, and Google apps. InDesign and Illustrator a plus.
  • Understanding of web platform functionalities (admin settings, comment moderation, groups, messages, etc.)
  • Scrupulous attention to detail in all aspects of work required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Basic knowledge and interest in fashion history, museum studies, marketing, non-profit administration, or related fields a plus.

Schedule: 35 hours/week
