SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Provide hands-on, inquiry and design-based learning experienced for Museum visitors in the exhibit halls and specific temporary exhibits. Help visitors explore the exhibits by providing guidance with exhibit components and offering access to tools and props that will enhance their experience and help make meaningful and relevant connections. Engage visitors in countertop investigations that encourage them to use scientific inquiry, engineering design and mathematics (STEM). Assist in the daily operation of the Exhibit Interpretation program including training, supporting and mentoring of volunteer educators.
ABOUT THE PIXAR EXHIBIT:

Enjoy a unique, first-time look into the Pixar process, and explore the science and technology behind some of the most beloved animated films and their characters with the world premiere of The Science Behind Pixar. This interactive exhibition showcases the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts used by the artists and computer scientists who help bring Pixar’s award-winning films to the big screen.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Present Interpretative activities with the general public and school audiences in the exhibit halls or specific temporary exhibit for 2 – 6 hours each day, as needed.
  • Learn a minimum of 2 – 3 programs in the first month and an avg of 1 program each month thereafter.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of new interpretation components as needed.
  • Participate and assist in the training and support of EHI team and up to 10 volunteers per shift.
  • Weekend, Friday evenings and/or holiday and/or summer hours are required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is temporary, part-time, until January 10th, 2016, 14 hours/week, with flexible scheduling two (2) days a week.
REPORTS TO:

Manager, School and Youth Programs

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Less than one (1) year of STEM Education experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate STEM content in programming for audiences of 2 – 30 people.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a high activity environment throughout the Museum.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and nonverbal)
  • Strong coaching skills as demonstrated by an ability to help participants successfully achieve activity or program goals.
  • Weekend, Friday evenings and/or holiday and/or summer hours are required.

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
