Exhibition Interpreter

Description:
The Peabody Essex Museum is seeking outgoing individuals to assume a critical role in the entry experience for the exhibition, Alchemy of Soul: Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons. The successful candidate is someone who enjoys engaging with museum audiences, has experience in guest services or theater performance, is bilingual, and has familiarity with and interest in Cuban art and culture. Exhibition Interpreters will be an integral part of the exhibition experience working closely with Guest Services, Education, and Facilities. Under the direction of the Lead Interpretation Planner, Exhibition Interpreters will play a key role in providing welcoming audience experiences by transporting guests both physically and emotionally into an abstracted environment, adding an evocative element to the entry experience. Candidates are required to operate and ride a freight elevator to transport audiences to other areas of the exhibition.He/she must be comfortable in small spaces frequently lifting an elevator door. Successful candidates are also comfortable with improvisation, storytelling, and speaking with audiences.

Qualifications:
Bilingual preferred and/or the ability to understand and make oneself understood to all Spanish speaking audiences. Prior experience in theater, education, and customer service preferred. Knowledge and interest in Cuban art and culture preferred. Candidates must have excellent conversation skills and the ability to manage crowds and queues. They must also be comfortable working in a confined space, have full range mobility and the ability to lift 50-90 lbs. 21 hours per week Tues. through Sun. with weekend, late evening, holiday and special programming hours required.The exhibition runs from January 6– April 2, 2016 with 1-2 training days required in December 2015.
