SUMMARY STATEMENT:

This position is part of a dynamic, creative team that creates and develops high-quality curriculum for a national elementary engineering project that reaches millions of children each year. The successful candidate for this position will lead curriculum development projects and serve as a senior member of a team of curriculum development professionals. The positions requires a strong understanding of education and pedagogy and the ability for participate in and lead teams that design and create curriculum materials and activities for a growing set of engineering offerings.

ENGINEERING IS ELEMENTARY:

The Engineering is Elementary (EiE) project aims to foster engineering and technological literacy among children. EiE is creating a research-based, standard driven, and classroom-tested curriculum that integrates engineering and technology concepts and skills with elementary science topics. EiE lessons not only promote K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning, but also connect with literacy and social studies. Storybooks featuring children from a variety of cultures and backgrounds introduce students to an engineering problem. Students are then challenged to solve a problem similar to that faced by the storybook character. Through a hands-on engineering design challenge, students work in teams to apply their knowledge of science and mathematics; use their inquiry and problem-solving skills; and tap their creativity as they design, create, and improve possible solutions. In the end, students realize that everyone can engineer!
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and tests an average of 4-8 engineering units or resources per year
  • Presents 5-10 workshops or conference presentations per year.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is grant funded, full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday.
REPORTS TO:

Manager, Multimedia and Curriculum Development

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of Curriculum development, teaching, or relevant work experience in the field of education experience.
  • Demonstrated experience creating effective resources for educators
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities.

STARTING SALARY:

Exempt (Salaried). Commensurate with experience.
