To advance the study of family history in America and beyond, the New England Historic Genealogical Society educates, inspires, and connects people through our scholarship, collections, and expertise. We have an 8-story research center on Newbury Street in Boston, with over 70 full-time staff; and, we serve 25,000 members nationally and 125,000 total constituents.

We are seeking a full-time visitor services representative to fulfill a key role on our five person member services team, providing customer service support to NEHGS members and visitors. The hours of the position are Tuesday through Saturday from 8:45–5:15.

Supporting our organization’s strategic vision, this position has the essential role of welcoming, actively recruiting, educating, and engaging new members. As part of the Member Services and Development team, this role focuses on building strong relationships and advancing these relationships over time, actively participating in a moves management strategy to further constituent relations at NEHGS. Additionally, the position provides oversight of our historic building’s reception desk and entryway and serves as a welcoming and proactive first point of contact for all members and new visitors. The Visitor Services Coordinator also schedules and facilitates tours of the library; collects and analyzes visitor statistics; and compiles reports for management.

v Microsoft Office and Windows computer proficiency

v Enthusiasm for helping people

v Familiarity with  Fundraising Software or Constant Contact is a plus

The NEHGS Member Services Team is vital to the growth and support of a 169-year old institution as we develop our constituent base in an exciting time to be working in the field of family history.

Customer, visitor, or member services experience is desired. Enthusiasm for, or knowledge of, NEHGS, genealogy and/or history is a plus.
