An outstanding opportunity awaits at the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) for a finance executive with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management.

We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization dedicated to educating and engaging the public through Kentucky history in order to confront the challenges of the future. A state agency and membership organization, we are fully accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. We have approximately 55 employees, and operate a research library, three museum sites – which include a museum store and rental facilities — and conduct educational and outreach programs (several of which are revenue generating) at our History Campus in historic downtown Frankfort and statewide.

The Director of Finance & Operations will be responsible for the development of KHS’s financial management strategy and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. In addition to the strategic components, the Dir of Finance & Operations will be charged with developing and implementing more sophisticated policies and procedures both in the finance and general operational realms.  This person will oversee the stewardship of KHS’s financial, human, and support assets; ensure our customers receive exceptional service; and provide for a safe and secure experience for both guests and staff (paid and non-paid). This person will also serve as the agency contact with Cabinet CFO and interact with the KHS Governing Board. This position supervises four management-level staff in finance, HR, operations, and facilities.

This role is all about establishing and maintaining systems/processes that provide the resources and information needed for the Kentucky Historical Society to make a difference throughout the commonwealth.

Requirements

Supervisory – Minimum 5 years in a senior management position responsible for financial management.

Education – Business or Accounting degree required, a master’s in business administration is preferred.

Experience – Minimum 7 years professional experience in financial, systems, attraction, or hospitality management. Must be familiar with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations

Communication – Ability to write and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and outside vendors.

Computer Skills – Advanced skill with database management, spreadsheets, and financial management software, along with basic word processing, internet and email skills.

Work Environment – Must be able to organize and manage multiple projects from concept to completion in a timely manner.  Must be willing to work some evening, weekends, and occasionally travel.

Physical Demands – Prepare and inspect documents, and make decisions from such; frequent use of computer keyboard, calculator and other office machines.

Preferable experience and expertise – Knowledge of point of sales systems, ticketing systems, inventory systems, electronic constituency management system, or organizational dashboards is useful.  Knowledge and familiarity of the Commonwealth’s KHRIS (personnel system) and eMARS (accounting system) is a plus.  Previous experience in payroll and fiscal operations, both budgeting and procurement, within state government is preferred. Experience in a history organization, museum or other cultural institution is beneficial. Background in facility management is helpful.
