Under supervision of the Director of Public Relations and Public Relations Manager, the Content Editor will write and edit materials ranging from breaking news releases and exhibition releases to background materials and general Museum information, along with advertising copy and internal communications. The Content Editor will also manage the monthly social media editorial calendar, writing social posts using a consistent, engaging and approachable voice for the Museum – tailored to individual channels – while also maintaining the MFA’s position as one of the world’s top cultural institutions.

Essential Functions:

• Work across the Communications department and lead editorial meetings with Creative Services (Preview magazine and mfa.org) and Marketing, coordinating content and ensuring consistency and sharing of assets. In collaboration with Marketing, create content for native advertising and shape direction of articles.

• Research, write and edit a variety of materials including press releases, fact sheets, biographies, social media copy, Op-Eds, pitch letters, speaking points, advertising copy, native advertising, email correspondence and memos. Topics include exhibitions, acquisitions/gifts of art, donor announcements, staff appointments, educational programs, tailored boilerplate, and MFA news.

• Manage monthly social media editorial calendar, creating content that maximizes awareness and engagement and supports Communications priorities and goals. Work with Marketing Department on tailoring copy for promoted posts.

• Manage all media distributions using Vocus database, sending final press materials to tailored media lists and updating mfa.org press room. Ensure that press releases and images are posted in a timely manner and recommend when information should be moved/archived, etc.

• Develop a bi-annual plan for tracking and updating written materials – including general MFA press kit, exhibition press kits, top acquisition releases, exhibition schedules, web updates, and press kits for individual collection areas. This includes creating a timeline for the incorporation of edits from all relevant departments/constituents.

• Maintain a library of MFA published materials including the following categories: General MFA, Art of the Americas Wing, Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Membership (Preview magazine, e-newsletters), Education/Community (brochures/materials for educational, film, concerts and lecture programs). Create a calendar of publication dates and inform PR team of the content of upcoming publications to assist with media strategies.

The position is often responsible for handling information of a sensitive nature and will be required to keep information confidential when necessary.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five to seven years of related work experience.
• Proficient and creative writing skills, along with attention to detail, editing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Facility with social media and digital; strong knowledge of search engine optimization.
• Eye for graphic design a plus.
