Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow – Mark Dion (Independent Contractor)

Description:
The ICA/Boston seeks a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow with excellent research and writing skills and a specialization in modern and/or contemporary art to assist with the research, development, and writing for an upcoming ICA exhibition and accompanying publication. The exhibition is the first U.S. museum survey of the work of Mark Dion, organized by Ruth Erickson, Assistant Curator. Dion’s process-based work in sculpture, installation, drawing, and public art investigates the construction and display of knowledge about the natural world. Acting as traveler, historian, scientist, and artist, Dion has pioneered an influential model of artistic practice that draws together research, collaboration, and fieldwork. He works in response to specific sites and problems, developing provocative methods and inventive forms that often reframe the known or expose the unknown. This exhibition explores the methodologies and forms developed by Dion through a series of room-size installations, sculptures, and works on paper. The research fellow will work on all aspects of exhibition planning and development, including research, checklist and loan management, and coordinating a major publication. The fellowship approximately 18 months long with the anticipated dates of January 2016 – August 2017.
