“America’s Fleet Museum” houses the world’s largest collection of US WWII ships and 5 National Historic Landmarks. Curator is part of Collections Department responsible for the historical artifacts. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Responsible for all aspects of collections management for the artifacts under their charge, managing the PastPerfect database, researching, cataloguing, store control, retrieval and presentation to the public. Responsible for artifacts on display and collections documentation. The Curator will support the forthcoming reinterpretation of the site. The curator is responsible for creating project initiation documents and plans for projects to be undertaken following museum industry standards and include conservation reports, methods of working, materials to be used and a job risk analysis, and advises on procedures regarding preservation and restoration. Requirements and Qualifications: Experience in a museum/academic institution; knowledge of Naval/Military history and of the material culture of the US Navy would be an advantage. Experience in original research, proven ability to write, edit, and produce publishable work; sound knowledge of collection management, storage, and preventative conservation skills; some experience with archive and library collections preferred; experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations preferred; experience initiating and executing exhibitions; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; M.A. (or equivalent) in Museum Studies, History, or related field required.
