Job Title:        Executive Director/Curator

Purpose:         The main purpose of this position is to preserve, protect, enhance, and share the unique history of Cape Coral.  By uniting different agencies, personalities, and efforts the Museum can more accurately preserve Cape Coral’s history for future generations.

Responsibilities: The Executive Director’s position encompasses a very broad role.  He/she must have the ability to work well with Board of Directors, members, volunteers, personnel, City Leaders, and media.  He/she must oversee the operation of the Cape Coral Historical Society and Museum to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Ensure the collection, preserving, and displaying artifacts of Cape Coral
  • Develop a working team among volunteers
  • Maintain membership
  • Evaluate and establish Museum hours of operation
  • Seek and ensure funding sources

Duties:

  • Ensure museum is open on specified days and perform necessary duties connected to opening museum
  • Oversee personnel and volunteers
  • Volunteer management; training session, policy and procedures, correspondence, recruitment, and maintain accurate records of volunteer hours
  • Establish guidelines and materials for volunteers to use so tours are conducted in an established manner.
  • Hiring and firing of appropriate personnel, rather volunteer or paid
  • Scheduling of personnel and volunteers
  • Directs and supervises other personnel and volunteers in order to reach their goals
  • Maintains membership for the Society including list of members, dues records and correspondence with members
  • Attend Board Meetings, Annual Meeting, and other assigned meetings
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors for the betterment of the Museum
  • Provide Board of Directors with reports
  • Ensure the protection of all aspects of museum
  • Ensure that all grounds, paths, structures, and equipment are properly maintain      and in good working condition
  • Maintain good relationships with neighboring entities
  • Prepare, propose and operate within a budget
  • Seek out and apply for appropriate grants and other finances for the Museum
  • Designate reserve funds for future projects based on anticipated needs of the museum
  • Maintain proper and accurate financial records with maximize use of Quickbooks software
  • Make regular deposits and payment of bills
  • Monthly meeting with CPA to generate and review monthly report with bank      reconciliation
  • Oversee security of inventory and operation of gift shop
  • Oversee and maintain Museum Website
  • Oversee and maintain Facebook site
  • Oversee the collection, preserving, and displaying of artifacts
  • Establish and implement Marketing Plan
  • Prepare and distribute press releases on a regular basis
  • Seek out traveling exhibits for the museum
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors
  • Work closely with City of Cape Coral Government
  • Oversee strategic planning
  • Coordinate special events with Board Members and/or Event Chairman
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the museum’s programming
  • Develop new educational programs for members, general visitors and children/families
  • Other assigned duties
Requirements
  • Preferred Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree
  • Preferred to have past museum or non-profit experience
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to serve as a team leader by encouraging, supporting, and establishing teams by considering different personalities
  • Able to multi task and take on several projects simultaneously
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks software
  • Experience in budget preparation
  • Problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Willingness to work weekends and after hours
  • Ability to pass an extensive back ground check.
