MUSEUM EDUCATION COORDINATOR

THE POSITION

This is a part-time, at-will position with benefits. The City of Arcadia is currently seeking a passionate and creative Museum Education Coordinator to plan and implement interpretive programs for the Arcadia Museum.

Responsibilities of this Position:

  • Address historic and cultural topics for various audiences and is responsible for educational programming content and promotional materials.
  • Coordinate outreach programs for schools and retirement homes and develops resource materials that support exhibitions and compliments school curricula.
  • Establishes and builds relationships with schools to promote the Museum in the community.
  • Assists with selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating docents and volunteers.
  • May participate on various employee committees and perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position averages 30 hours per week; typical work schedule would be Tuesday – Saturday from 9am to 4pm.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Two (2) years of experience organizing and coordinating museum, educational and interpretive programs.

Education: Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.  Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education or Liberal Arts is desirable. Early Childhood Education units, Teaching Certificate and knowledge in the field of the history of California and the West is also desirable.

License/Certificate:  Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Special Requirements: Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, work in a standard office and museum environment, travel to different sites and locations and ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, twist, lift, and carry 30 lbs., push and pull 100-120 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
