Description

The National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM) inspires interest in and promotes understanding of medicine with a special emphasis on American military medicine.  A COLLECTIONS TECHNICIAN, who will support the general collection of the museum, is sought for this National Historic Landmark.  The collections technician will provide management support and physical maintenance of the collections; create, maintain and improve inventories and guides using best practice methods; and maintain and prepare the collection for exhibits, loans, research and storage.  The collections technician will process and re-house a variety of specimens, including artifacts, glass, paper, skeletal and wet tissue collections.  Master’s degree in museum studies, history, biology, anthropology, or related field sought.  At least three years of experience with museum or collections management, including knowledge of standard museum practices required.  Must be able to meet OSHA requirements for BS-Level II laboratory.  Additional qualification details may be found at http://mogerinternational.com/experts/nmhm-collections-technician/.  Qualified applicants should send cover letter and resume to Museum@mogerinternational.com by Monday, May 2, 2016.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess, at a minimum, a Master’s degree in museum studies, history, biology, anthropology, or related field.
  • Three (3) years relevant museum or collections management experience, professional knowledge of standard museum practices.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for historically, scientifically, and monetarily valuable collections.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, demonstrated knowledge and use of KE Emu or other database and electronic publications software including computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Requires ability to generate credible finding aids and work in support of the Registrar and general collections management.
  • Must be able to meet OSHA requirements for BS-Level II laboratory.

 

This MoGer International position is supported by a Federal Government contract; thus employment is subject to the availability of funding.  The current option period under the contract ends July 31, 2016; therefore, continued employment beyond that date is subject to available funding and the option to continue support services under the contract.
