Manager of Interpretive Programs

James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange, Virginia seeks an engaging and creative museum professional to develop interpretive tours and programs, train and evaluate interpreters and other front line staff, and assist in the management of the Education Department.  Reporting to the Director of Visitor Education and Visitor Engagement, the successful candidate will possess at least five years’ experience in developing and delivering historic interpretation, have knowledge of current interpretation methodologies, and hold an advanced degree in American History, Public History, Museum Studies or a related field.  Expertise in content and customer-service training, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills are mandatory.  Familiarity with the history of the early American republic and African American history is greatly preferred.   Please submit cover letter, resume, and three references as a single pdf.  Montpelier is an EOE. Full job description.
