POSITION:               Public Programs Associate

DEPARTMENT:      Education and Public Programs

REPORTS TO:         Associate Director of Public Programs

STATUS:                    Full time, Non exempt

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Public Programs Associate provides essential administrative and program support for The CJM’s public programs, including program development, planning, and  implementation.  The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possessing excellent judgment, able to balance a diverse range of projects, and to communicate professionally and sensitively with colleagues, presenters and members of the public.  Reporting to the Associate Director of Public Programs, the Associate will have opportunities to develop cultural and arts programming.  Weekend and evening work will be required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to implement and execute public programs. Assist in day-to-day task planning, organizing, calendaring and program management.
  • Coordinate program logistics with other Museum departments, such as: reserving event space; creating floor plans; A/V set up and sound check; organizing volunteers;  preparing signage and collateral; surveys; and  book sales.
  • Assist with promotion of public programs including communicating to partners and other relevant organizations.
  • Oversee load-in and load-out of programs and performances.
  • Serve as primary contact for performers and guest speakers and coordinate needs prior and post programs, including communicating and finalizing contractual agreements and confirming logistics.
  • Attend to presenters and performers onsite needs including stage and performance requirements, hospitality, and trouble-shooting as needed.
  • Oversee volunteers, ushers, and other staff during public programs.  Create written directions and production notes for staff and volunteers.
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director of Public Programs, develop specialty young adult programming, and other exhibition related content. Actively build relationships with Jewish partnering organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA, BFA or MA in art history, contemporary art, American studies, and/or Museum Education
  • 2+ years’ experience working and/or teaching in museums or other cultural organizations
  • Experience managing logistics, planning and coordinating events. Experience producing scholarly programs is a plus
  • Proven  attention to detail and accuracy, and consistent delivery of high quality work
  • Focus to work within deadlines and flexibility to handle shifting priorities
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on projects as assigned
  • High proficiency with PC systems and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to remain standing for up to four hours
  • Ability to climb, bend and stoop
  • Excellent manual dexterity, visual and hearing acuity
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs
