The Guest Experience Bilingual Programs Specialist plays an essential role in the Aquarium’s goal of providing superior on-site presentations and group tours for visitors that create powerful emotional connections with our diverse guests. Using the art of storytelling and commanding strong public speaking skills, the Program Specialist plays a pivotal role in engaging visitors in the Aquarium mission which is to inspire conservation of the ocean.  The Programs Specialist will work with public Guest Experience Programs, paid Aquarium Adventure programs and other interdivisional teams.  You will be responsible for the development of English language visitor programming, coordinating Spanish interpretation of programming and the delivery of programs in both languages throughout the Aquarium. This individual will provide training, coaching and feedback to staff and volunteers on both English and Spanish speaking visitor programs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for the delivery of both English and Spanish language programs and tours
  • Provide support for the paid tours and sleepover team leading tours on a regular basis including: Family Tours, Feeding Tours, Behind the Scenes Tours, and other tours as assigned
  • Contribute to maintaining and updating current programs and training materials for both English and bilingual English/Spanish formal and informal programs and tours throughout the Aquarium
  • Deliver and coordinate all training for Aquarium staff and volunteers who present bilingual  public programs
  • Assist in training, coaching and feedback of English programs and tours on a regular basis
  • Participate in the development of all bilingual English and Spanish visitor programs
  • Provide assistance to Guest Experience operations by providing guests with programmatic and interpretive information
  • Must work weekends, some evenings and all bilingual events

Required Knowledge/Ability/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preference for a degree in natural science, education or theatre
  • At least two years’ experience delivering engaging and scientifically accurate, educational, programming in an informal setting.
  • Oral fluency in Spanish and English
  • Able to write clearly and concisely in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with a variety of types of professionals, interns and volunteers of various ages.
  • Flexibility and the ability to be self-directed while performing a number of diverse tasks simultaneously

Desired Knowledge/Ability/Experience

  • Enhancement of bilingual training materials ensuring that they are kept current, and culturally relevant
  • Ability to learn and deliver marine science and natural history content

Ancillary Responsibilities

  • Experience work planning
  • Experience strategizing program development for bilingual programs
