The Denver Art Museum is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join the Department of Learning and Engagement as our Adult Programs Manager.  Reporting to the Associate Director of Learning and Engagement, this individual will manage and develop a spectrum of programming that connects diverse adult audiences to DAM’s world-class art and cultures collections and campus. With a major reinstallation of the museum’s original Gio Ponti building to be completed by 2021 and plans for an expanded Learning and Engagement Center, DAM is seeking an Adult Programs Manager who will create innovative programming, forge partnerships, and grow programs for adult audiences ranging from millennials to Denver’s growing older adult communities.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow Learning and Engagement’s current adult program offerings including, but not limited to, Untitled (Friday night program), studio classes, art history and humanities courses, out-door Plaza programming and collaborative events.
  • Grow engagement opportunities for Denver’s creative community including developing and managing DAM’s Creative in Residence Program.
  • Work with Associate Director of Learning and Engagement to envision and conceptualize future program directions for an expanded Learning and Engagement Center.  Strategic directions include a focus on the creative community in Denver, and on and off – site programs that better serve older audiences. Oversee subsequent programs.
  • Oversee and guide the development of programs for visitors with special needs.
  • Work collaboratively with curatorial and membership departments to create coordinated adult program offerings for the museum.
  • Develop and maintain strategic community partnerships and relationships that will increase and diversify the use of adult programs. Includes identifying and communicating with potential partners, presenting at and/or participating in off-site events, and coordinating partnership programs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff to develop communications and marketing strategies for the Museum’s web, print, on-site and on-line communications.
  • Work with Development staff on sponsorship and donor cultivation.
  • Maintain exceptional quality of programs and foster a culture of reflection, experimentation and innovation.  Oversee participant evaluations. Manage and/or coordinate larger evaluation studies related to Adult programs.  Stay current on the latest thinking and research as it relates to Adult Audiences and participatory engagement strategies.

Other duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage budgets and timelines for all adult, senior, and access program areas.
  • Supervise Adult Programs Coordinator, Adult and Access Programs Coordinator, and part time grant staff.
  • Participate in overall Learning and Engagement department planning and budgeting activities.
  • Serve as Learning and Engagement representative on museum-wide committees as assigned.
  • Assist with other programming as needed.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • 3-4 years programming experience and working in a museum environment
  • Experience designing art/public engagement programs, specifically experience working with artists on collaborative projects.
  • Experience working with community arts organizations and creative community (Experience with Denver’s creative community a plus).
  • Ability to solve problems as they arise, to take initiative.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and in some cases manage in-house teams and external groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in group and individual situations as well as in written form.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to work independently on multiple, detailed projects simultaneously.
  • Digital engagement experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus
  • MA in museum education, arts programming, and/or art or design related field
