The Museum Educator is responsible for providing educational services at the Lake County Discovery Museum, other District sites, schools, libraries and community facilities. This responsibility includes the development, presentation and evaluation of school and public programs to meet professional standards and local audience needs. Programs are presented on weekdays, evenings and weekends. This individual reports to the Education Manager and serves as the volunteer coordinator for the museum.
Bachelor’s degree in history, education, museum studies or closely related field. One year of experience in a museum setting with program coordination including: program research, development and implementation; evaluation; artifact interpretation; public relations.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn Lake County, Illinois and American history in order to develop and implement appropriate educational programming. Experience recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers and docents in a museum setting. Experience coordinating and implementing summer camps, public programs and special events. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of employees, agencies and the general public. Education and communication skills necessary to plan and present educational programs for all ages. Must possess valid driver’s license. Ability to perform lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.
