Director of Development

Full Time, Exempt

Purpose: The Director of Development is responsible for working with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop a diverse and sustainable portfolio of contributed income. The Director of Development reports to the CEO.  This position is an important part of the senior staff team and will be integral to the mission, growth, and financial strength of the Art & History Museums – Maitland.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Fund Development:

  • Develops sustainable funding with existing and new donors through individual and corporate giving, planned giving, and grants in partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Oversees gift processing
  • Manages grant administration

Membership:

  • Expand and retain member base through innovative strategies

Events:

  • Plan and implement fundraising and donor events

In addition to the above listed duties, the Director of Development will:

  • Attend programs and special events as required
  • Develop and manage budgets for the Development Department
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualities:

  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to lead departmental strategic thinking as well as have a keen attention to detail
  • Highly-organized self-starter who can coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Desire to promote the A&H’s mission
  • Ability to work with the public in a professional manner and develop relationships with volunteers, members, and donors
  • Team player with a strong work ethic who can develop a positive and highly productive work environment while maintaining flexibility
  • Maintains confidentiality as required
  • CRM and/or donor database software experience preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years professional fundraising experience, preferably with a cultural organization
  • Grant writing experience required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Event planning experience required

Education:

  • Four year degree in business, art, history, museum studies, or a related field required.
  • CFRE preferred
