Description

The Denver Art Museum is looking for an Exhibitions Assistant Project Manager to oversee, manage, and coordinate planning and budgeting of exhibitions, rotations and related programming at the Denver Art Museum and assist the Director of Exhibitions with programming, budgeting, and exhibition-related issues.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

* Manage and coordinate all planning activities related to exhibitions, rotations and programs as assigned.

* Facilitate and manage communications within the core teams, the extended exhibition and collection services team, and program teams, as well as outside organizations, vendors and contractors

* Set project schedules and ensure teams stay on track and deadlines are met

* Identify, assign and coordinate exhibition and graphic designers as well as other contractors to projects as needed

* Work closely with all areas of the ECS department (exhibition production, installation, preparation, registrars, collections management and photography), and the Curatorial, Conservation and Learning and Engagement departments to ensure that institutional priorities, resources and labor, scheduling, budget and space needs regarding exhibitions, rotations and other installations are met

* Actively communicate and work collaboratively with all museum departments including : Technology, Protective and Facility Services, Accounting, Development, Communications, Marketing and Visitor Services to ensure successful exhibition planning and implementation

* Work with Director of Exhibitions, and Chief of Exhibition and Collection Services to review all traveling exhibition, artist, independent contractors, audio, and all other project related contracts

* Manage correspondence and internal communications related to assigned exhibitions and programs including documentation such as contracts and invoices.

* Manage all aspects of assigned exhibition and rotation budgets and coordinate the assembly, maintenance, monitoring, reconciliation and the communication of detailed project budget reports and expenses.

* Develop, update and evaluate exhibition planning process and procedures and coordinate interdepartmental communication.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Knowledge of museum exhibition processes and practices

* Ability to deal effectively with multiple projects simultaneously

* Project management experience and business training is essential

* Experience with project scheduling

* Strong organizational and budget management skills

* Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills and an ability to work collaboratively and create consensus.

* Training and/or experience with collection database systems preferred

* Ability to read and interpret accounting information and contract documents

* Ability to find creative solutions in a flexible and calm manner.

* An appreciation for the Museum’s focus on improving our visitors’ experience.

Education or Formal Training

* College degree in art or business related field. A Master’s Degree in art or museum studies or certification in project management preferred.

Experience

* Minimum 2 years successful experience in a museum environment, preferably related to exhibitions, curatorial, or registration project assistance.

* Proven ability to work constructively within a team framework to create consensus

* Strong computer experience particularly in Outlook, Excel, and MS Project.

* Experience developing and managing project budgets or related

* Proven ability to make decisions in a timely and responsible manner

* Proven ability to work with a wide range of disciplines and interests

* Proven ability to understand and work within institutional priorities
