Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator

Summary
The Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for all functions related to the areas of public relations, marketing, branding, advertising, and graphic design for the entire Museum. The position is charged with increasing public awareness of the MOCA and its programs locally, regionally, nationally; managing the internal and external communication needs of the organization; and promoting a favorable public image of the museum. This position reports directly to the Executive Director but works collaboratively with all department members and directors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator will:
Develop and maintain a close affiliation with local and regional media outlets to continuously generate promotion of exhibitions, programs and events. Foster a relationship with state and national media resources associated with visual arts and museums.
Create and keep current a data base of media sources and their respective demographic reach
Manage digital marketing and social media, monitor and update MOCA’s Web site, keeping electronic information ever current; Administer the brand; oversee the proper utilization and continuity of established brand standards for both internal and external communications
Develop and implement timely comprehensive marketing plans for exhibitions, education programs and events that include promotional activities to reach targeted audiences. Analyze the success of marketing campaigns and advertisements.
Ensure the inclusion of MOCA’s exhibitions, programs and events in local and regional media calendars produced by, including but not limited, newspapers, magazines, and online resources.
Generate or oversee timely production of all publicity materials, including but not limited to the bi-annual newsletter, postcard announcements, e-mails, and signage
Assist in event planning and organizing public oriented events sponsored by MOCA.
Act as or engage a photographer at MOCA sponsored events and regularly submit event photographs to social sections of local tabloids and magazines.
Act as the Museum’s spokesperson in both verbal and written communication in response to media coverage or in dealing with high profile individuals.
Work with the City of Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau to heighten awareness of MOCA and promote the Museum as a resource to tourism markets
Maintain MOCA’s media clip files
Develop annual budget for marketing and public relations and monitor expenses.
Maintain a working knowledge of standards and best practices as defined by the American Alliance of Museums
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications or other related field 3-5 years’ experience in marketing. Have excellent multitasking abilities, exceptional organizational skills, and proven record in meeting deadlines. Must possess strong work ethic and superb written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently. Must possess knowledge of graphic design, print production and layout principles; Photoshop, InDesign and Quark Xpress skills are helpful. Proficiency with modern computer programs and Microsoft Office Suite is required. Familiarity with email marketing tools (Constant Contact) and social media platforms.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to attend MOCA special events or promotional activities including nights, weekends and occasional early morning. Travel may be required for select annual conferences.
