DescriptionSCAD seeks an executive director to develop the strategic vision and implement the long-term plan for SCAD Museum of Art and Savannah exhibitions.

In this role, you will be responsible for excellence in every aspect of operations at the SCAD Museum of Art, one of the country’s premier contemporary art museums. Overseeing the selection and presentation of exhibitions, you will ensure a well-rounded schedule of events that includes educational programs, artist lectures and local outreach programs. Additionally, you will communicate with the other SCAD locations to ensure the continuity of exhibitions.

The executive director is responsible for the proper care and storage of permanent collections, as well as working with curators and directors on exhibition catalogs and conducting VIP gallery tours for special guests.

In addition to overseeing daily operations and maintenance of the permanent collection, you will supervise the museum’s fundraising, grant writing and financial administration, including coordination with the university’s institutional advancement department and cultivation of relationships with major stakeholders for the purpose of fundraising special projects. You will also participate in the creation and management of the museum and exhibition budgets, sign purchase requisitions and prepare quarterly and annual reports on all facets of the museum.

The executive director is the liaison between the museum and other SCAD departments, as well as between the museum and the community. You will travel as needed to promote the museum, maintain partnerships with the arts and business communities and provide input about marketing and public relations to elevate the reputation of the museum and the university.

The ideal candidate has previous experience creating and applying strategic plans for large organizations and demonstrates a deep understanding of curatorial work, including exhibition research, development and installation. You should possess strong leadership skills, a familiarity with standard practices for museums and nonprofits and the ability to work well with departments within an institution. Excellent writing and public speaking skills are essential, as is experience with fundraising, grant writing and audience development.
