Description:
The Guild of Boston Artists, located on Newbury Street in the heart of Boston’s gallery district, is looking to fill the position of Director with an innovative, sales-oriented leader. Established in 1914, The Guild is a nonprofit art gallery promoting representational painting and sculpture of enduring beauty by leading New England artists committed to fostering a love of fine art through gallery exhibitions and educational programs.

Reporting to the Board of Managers, the Director is responsible for operating and managing the gallery, for overseeing exhibitions and programs, and for providing support and leadership to assist the Board of Managers in advancing the Guild’s mission.

Essential duties include, promoting the Guild, curating, installing, and selling artwork, and acting as a liaison between artist members and patrons. The director works with the Board of Managers to create and implement a calendar of events that includes exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, gallery talks, educational classes, and special events. The director is responsible for the smooth daily running of the gallery, overseeing maintenance of the building, interacting with the building tenants and recruiting and supervising assistants and interns.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • sales experience
  • strong communication skills
  • marketing experience (includes social media)
  • strong operational management skills
  • strong attention to detail
  • interest in traditional painting and sculpture
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • basic knowledge of Quickbooks
