The Morris Museum is seeking an experienced fundraiser who will provide strategic leadership of our fundraising efforts, supervising two full-time professional staff (the Grants Manager and the Manager of Membership and Special Events). The Director of Development will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all fundraising activities including membership, corporate and foundation giving, government funding, individual annual giving, special events and planned giving. S/he will promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the Museum, attracting new sources of support and initiating stewardship and recognition of all donors. This professional will also provide fundraising support to the Executive Director and the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees, coordinating cultivation activities, solicitations, and events. Occasional weekend and evening hours required.

Responsibilities

  • Expand and enhance the Museum’s annual fund development plan to raise support for operations, capital projects, and endowment;
  • Maintain a calendar for cultivation and solicitation of donors; track donor stewardship activities and recognition to strengthen relationships and increase the likelihood of continued and increased contributions;
  • Work with the Grants Manager to manage grants calendar (submission dates and reports), prepare proposals, track progress, draft acknowledgements and reports;
  • Oversee the writing of fundraising materials to individual donors, corporations, foundations, and government funders;
  • Execute successful fundraising events by identifying effective chairpersons, recruiting committee members, attracting and increasing corporate sponsorships, and planning and implementing the logistics of all events;
  • Manage communications and stewardship of prospects and donors: schedule face-to-face meetings, phone calls and prepare written materials;
  • Coordinate all aspects of direct mail campaigns to donors and members from drafting appeal letters to mailings and follow-up;
  • Conduct prospect research and analysis, producing reports and other documents as needed; and
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Museum’s fundraising database to ensure research findings and donor interactions/communications are recorded.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA degree required; interest in the arts and humanities preferred
  • Five to seven years of proven fundraising leadership experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and strong verbal communication skills
  • Highly detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable using search engines and other software applications
  • Ability to remain flexible and focused in an active work environment and to prioritize deadlines and assignments effectively.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint a must; experience with Raiser’s Edge desirable.
