The Charles E. Gagnon Museum & Sculpture Garden is seeking an Assistant Director with at least 1-2 years’ experience in museum or nonprofit management to aid in the preparation of the museum for an upcoming grand opening. This position is flexible and covers a variety of tasks including museum and collections management, strategic planning, marketing and communications, administrative duties, support to the Board of Directors, and overseeing creative projects. Qualified individuals may be considered for additional duties as an Executive Director. Primary duties include:

  • Overseeing the general preparation for the museum’s opening, establishing key points on the action plan
  • Organizing collections in the museum’s Past Perfect database and planning future exhibitions and tours in relation to the collections
  • Manage the completion of Phase 1 of the museum’s sculpture garden
  • Compose content for various online media, including the website, Facebook, and e-newsletters
  • Write grant applications and other internal museum writings
  • Plan and implement an effective marketing strategy leading up to the opening date
  • Website development and management
Candidates for this position with the Charles E. Gagnon Museum will exhibit the following attributes for serious consideration:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in a museum setting
  • Knowledge of museum management, including an understanding of preserving museum collections and setting up various museum programs
  • A minimum B.A. in the liberal arts or in business administration
  • Strategic mindset dedicated to the mission of the museum and intent on sharing a passion for the 50-year legacy of Charles E. Gagnon’s sculpture and the significance of his studio for Rochester’s local history
  • Excellent writing skills and a good understanding of social media, email, and website management
  • Must be comfortable using both Mac and PC computers on a regular basis, with a definite knowledge of Microsoft Office, Parallels Desktop, and Google docs
  • Creative passion for the arts and a positive attitude comfortable sharing with visitors and donors to the museum
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to adapt to new situations and ideas
