Description:
PAAM’s Art Reach Program is seeking a passionate gamer + game designer + digital media teacher and mentor for our teen and young adult (13-21 years) afternoon sessions. This is a part-time contract position with the option to renew annually. The previous educator was with the program for 8 years. Rather than solely presenting weekly curriculum, the Game Design Artist Educator helps students identify interests and support the realization of individual and team projects; recent projects have included side scrolling platform games; digital animation; and projects that require coding and graphic design.

The weekly afternoon program, now entering its 9th year, will run from October-May (50 sessions); game sessions run two afternoons per week; program breaks that mirror the school year. (Sessions are currently offered Thursday and Saturday afternoons; 12 Tuesday afternoons in our Minecraft/Kerbal classes are also a possibility.) The successful teacher will be: committed to and enthusiastic about working with this age group; able to address individual needs and encourage both solo problem-solving and peer learning; track student projects and growth overtime (based on clearly-defined program goals); and maintain a supportive and fun creative learning environment along with a program assistant. The teacher will also be responsible for evaluation of his/her sessions, including weekly journals and bi-annual assessments of students. Classes are small: between 10-15 students; more than half of the 2016-17 program participants are returning from one or more years at PAAM.

Qualifications:
Required: BA, BFA or related degree, along with a broad knowledge of game design programs; the ability to stay current with developments in the digital game industry; experience with popular games, including Hearthstone, Minecraft, and Pokémon GO; and working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite. Experience working with teens in project-based, creative learning environments preferred.
