The Assistant Director of Education is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and delivery of education and public programming for audiences of all abilities and all ages. This position requires overseeing and working with the members of the education department and a group of over 25 volunteers. Must be able to work collaboratively with all museum departments to develop multidisciplinary and innovative programs designed to support exhibitions and attract visitors according to museum priorities. The Assistant Director of Education will also be responsible for a wide range of detailed administrative duties. This is a full-time status position of 30 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday with some evening/weekend hours as scheduled. This position reports to the Director of Education.  Position is open until filled.

Responsibilities:

•    Works with the Director of Education to develop, assess and revise education and public programs.
•    Assists with creating, planning, and teaching all school programs, as well as programs for young children and aging audiences.
•    Works collaboratively with the Public Programs Manager to assist with planning events and oversees administrative aspects of scheduling and promoting public programs.
•    Recruits, trains and supervises docents and interns.
•    Assists the Director of Education with the preparation of budgets, administers grants and helps complete core tasks as needed.
•    Works select evenings/weekend public programs and participates in professional development workshops and program outreach.

Requirements:
•    Degree in museum education, education, or related humanities field preferred.
•    At least two years of experience working in a museum setting.
•    Demonstrated organizational, administrative and supervisory skills with staff and volunteers.
•    Collaboration, flexibility and teamwork are essential.
•    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with social media is a plus.
•    This position involves some evening/weekend work.
