Description:
Gallery 263 is seeking two to three enthusiastic individuals to join our collaborative and creative Board of Directors. The current 8 Board Directors bring a diversity of skills and experience to the table, but all share a passion for the arts and community that keep us focused and true to the Gallery’s mission. The Board works closely with the small staff of three to help steer and promote the varied and ambitious calendar of arts programming. Through diverse programs including juried shows, artist-curated exhibits, music, dramatic arts, and residencies, Gallery 263 empowers artists and nurtures innovation.

Board membership is on a voluntary basis and members are elected to an initial one-year term, with intent to renew. This working board meets quarterly with additional committee meetings as needed. Time commitment outsides of meetings varies based on the position and committee to which the Director belongs. Board responsibilities include staff management (President), financial oversight (Treasurer), archiving (Secretary), marketing strategy (Marketing committee), donor cultivation (Fundraising committee), fundraising (All), audience development (All), community engagement (All), strategic planning (All), and program development (as desired). Directors are also solicited for votes on Artist Member applications and optional participation in the bi-annual exhibitions reviews for the Curatorial Proposal Series. Directors provide a sounding board for the staff as well as direction and accountability. The Board is expected to run two annual fundraisers, an annual appeal, and help grow the vibrant community of visitors, patrons and volunteers. A meaningful annual financial contribution is also required. The Board and Staff are always open to ideas for improvement, sustainability, and especially fundraising.

Past Director led projects include: a new website (www.gallery263.com); special programs, including a weekend of one-act plays, a festival of one-minute films, and a silent dance party; 365 Day Appeal to raise $9000; Kickstarter Appeal video.

Qualifications:
We are in pursuit of individuals of all skill levels and experience. A willingness to help out and fundraise is absolutely essential. Ideally applicants would have a knowledge of the inner workings of an arts or non-profit organization. Prospective Directors should have an interest in the arts, but do not need to be artists or musicians. Applicants must be able to attend quarterly board meetings and at least 2 annual fundraising events. Knowledge of fundraising, donor prospecting, grant writing, and community engagement are highly desired. Connections and contacts to the local business community is a huge plus!

About Us:

Our base at 263 Pearl Street has long been connected to the Cambridge art scene. From the 1970s into the 1980s it was the location of the Brinkerhoff gallery, a hub of art and music. After a couple decades as the “Organic Furniture Cellar”, the space returned to its artistic routes. From 2004-2008 Gallery 263 was the personal art studio of co-founder Annie Newbold, with occasional exhibitions by local artists. In September 2008 Gallery 263 became a full-time exhibition space. In the summer of 2010, Gallery 263 founded its artists-in-residency program, and was approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By 2011 it had a growing music program, which now features local and regional musicians almost every week of the year.
