Function of Position

The Operations Manager assists the Museum’s Executive Director and an active board to help implement a range of services to ensure the Museum operates efficiently on a daily basis. Duties include but are not limited to fundraising and membership support, executive support, events management, customer service, exhibition curation, and Museum Store management. This position reports to and receives instruction from the Executive Director.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintains and manages the membership and donor database in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Stays current with membership trends in the museum field and spearheads membership drives
  • Implements all data entry and acknowledgements processes, including correspondence, membership renewals, new member packets, thank you letters, and Annual Appeal campaign.
  • Provides reports as requested from databases.
  • Provides front desk back-up support as necessary.
  • Manages Museum Store, maintains an accurate inventory, orders and prices items for sale, & works with Museum Store vendors.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of special events.
  • Updates and manages the Museum’s website and assists with social media posts.
  • Opens and closes Museum with the front desk staff.
  • Performs various clerical duties including filing and office supplies ordering.
  • Assists with annual exhibition research and curation.
  • Serves as Development Assistant for Capital Campaign project including all database entry and thank you letters, attending weekly meetings, and note taking and distribution.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of computers and databases, particularly Microsoft Office 2013
  • Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Past Perfect.
  • Positive outlook and flexibility in a fast-paced two-person museum.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the general public, members, and
  • Board of Trustees.
  • Ability to take direction and to function independently.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to monitor work schedule and workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to trouble shoot/problem solve over a variety of areas (database, computer
  • hardware)
  • Knowledge of website management in Word Press a plus.
  • Experience researching and curating exhibitions.
