Part Time Museum Educator

Our department is seeking a part-time museum educator to develop family and youth programs (12 hours/week) that will educate and delight visitors to two anthropology museums. Assistant will help develop, document, market and staff summer and school vacation programs for family audiences and youth groups at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology and the Harvard Semitic Museum. Experience teaching programs in a camp, museum or school setting is essential. Educator will support the marketing of programs through email, direct mail or presentations. Experience writing curriculum outlines, training materials or lessonplans will be helpful. The ideal candidate will have a background in history, archaeology or anthropology; excellent writing skills, an outgoing personality, creative attitude towards programs, strong time management skills and speak a language other than English fluently. This position is 12 hours per week, 10-5 Fridays and two other mornings per week from 9:30-12:30 with the occasional weekend day assigned in advance. This is an hourly position ($17 per hour) and is not eligible for benefits. Please see https://peabody.harvard.edu/education for more details about the departments’ work.

Required: BA in anthropology, history, archaeology, or cultural studies. Work experience can compensate for a BA in other domains. Teaching experience. Sense of humor. Position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Helpful Qualifications: Coursework or work experience with Native American cultures or Ancient Near East Cultures or education. Speak Spanish or other language fluently. A self-starter.
