Position: Community Engagement Assistant
Classification: Part Time (approx. 20 hours per week)
Location: Otis House, Beacon Hill – Boston, MA

Description: The Community Engagement Assistant provides administrative and research support to the manager of community engagement and exhibitions to advance the 100 Years, 100 Communities initiative, a multi-year collaborative heritage preservation project. As part of the initiative, Historic New England is partnering with communities small and large throughout New England, to document, collect, and preserve twentieth-century history at risk of being lost. The Community Engagement Assistant identifies internal and external resources for individual projects and partners and works on specifically defined projects that engage new constituencies and institutional partners to maximize impact for the public. Prepares and/or distributes written material on 100 Years, 100 Communities projects for Historic New England magazine and for electronic communication to ensure that all activities are communicated to staff and the public. Updates and maintains related web pages to ensure all information is current. Maintains database and filing systems, including correspondence, manages digital recorders and coordinates oral history transcriptions.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in history, museum studies or related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Organizational skills necessary to effectively plan and implement work process to complete work on schedule. Competent computer skills, including use of word processing, Powerpoint, and spreadsheet functions. Attention to detail and performing work with a high level of accuracy are essential. Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Plone or a similar content management system. Experience in conduction oral history interviews.
