Director of Individual Giving

General Job Function: The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for the management and growth of a Major Gifts program for Chicago Children’s Museum. This person is responsible for the attainment of annual revenue goals as well as personally participating in and coordinating the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual major gifts.

Principle Responsibilities:

Manage and grow major gifts program (65%)

  • With VP of Individual Giving, set strategy for a major gifts program
  • Execute Major Gifts program, including planning, organizing, and setting financial goals and measurement
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward an individual giving portfolio of major gift donors
  • Develop a planned giving program
  • With Events Coordinator, plan and execute events for major donor
  • Support the major gift work of CCM’s Board of Directors and other CCM Boards
  • With CCM development staff, refine and collaborate on case for support

Work with Individual Giving team to manage and grown Annual Fund program (25%)

  • Work with Individual Giving team to grow annual fund program
  • With Individual Giving team, develop a moves management strategy to increase donor base and move donors from annual fund to major gift level

Management (10%)

  • Contribute to annual planning and goal setting
  • Assist VP of Individual Giving in overall development and management of financial goals and expense projections
  • With development department staff, coordinate with other museum departments to fund program/exhibit priorities
  • As appropriate, participate in institution-wide discussions and assist in implementing CCM’s foundational documents
  • Participate in Campaign planning and strategy as needed

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6-8 years fundraising experience with emphasis on major gifts and individual giving
  • Self-starter who is detail oriented with a strategic vision
  • Creative and entrepreneurial
  • Strong work ethic and the desire to thrive in a demanding environment
  • Ability to handle changing situations and meet deadlines a must
  • Ability to work effectively in a multifaceted, team environment
  • Engaging leader and people person
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups

Special Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Raiser’s Edge
  • Proven track record of relationship building and successful major gifts
  • Extensive knowledge of Chicago philanthropic community

Demonstrated Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and planning skills as well as demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and effectiveness
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and verbal presentation skills

Hours/Physical Requirements of the Position: Full-time position, including some evenings and weekend hours. Occasional lifting of boxes and traveling offsite to local and/or regional events.
