The Museum Educator is responsible for providing educational services at the Lake County Discovery Museum, other District sites, schools, libraries and community facilities. This responsibility includes the development, presentation and evaluation of school and public programs to meet professional standards and local audience needs. Programs are presented on weekdays, evenings and weekends. This individual reports to the Manager of Cultural Resources and may supervise education assistants and volunteers.

EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, education, history or closely related field. One year of experience in a museum setting with program coordination including audience analysis, program research and development, artifact interpretation techniques, script writing and public relations. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Lake County history, Illinois history, and American history to make appropriate judgments about cultural interpretation for programming services. Experience recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers in a museum (or similar) setting. Possess excellent interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully and courteously with all levels of employees, agencies and the general public. Education and communication skills necessary to plan and present education programs for large and small groups of children and adults. Must possess valid driver’s license.
