VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE

(two positions, one starting February 2011 and one starting summer 2011)

The Visitor Service Associate position is integral to fulfilling deCordova’s goal that each visitor has a superb and meaningful experience in the park and museum.  Visitor Service Associates work on frontlines to cultivate and strengthen deCordova’s ties to its audience by creating a positive first impression and lasting connections through quality services, smooth operations, communication that is personable and informative, well-run amenities, and accessibility throughout the museum environment.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Visitor Services, the ideal Visitor Services Associate will be hands-on, collaborative, energetic, and customer-oriented.  VS Associates interface with all museum visitors and consistently exceed visitor and member expectations by providing orientation, information, resources, and creating an environment that is responsive to visitors’ needs.  Given the highly visible nature of this position, the ability to communicate effectively, comfort with the public, and appropriate dress for the position are all necessary.  VS Associates are expected to arrive at work no later than 9:45 am each morning and remain until the end of day closing (between 5:00 – 5:15 pm).  One half hour lunch break is included in the work day.  The work schedule includes weekend hours, some holidays, and occasional evening events.

• Exemplary interpersonal communication, customer service, and public relations skills

• Experience with/ability to learn money-handling, cashiering, and point-of-sale transactions

• Flexibility to work at various stations within Visitor Services

• Efficiency, grace, and tact during high traffic cycles
