*Assistant/Associate Curator of Museum Education*

The APS Museum seeks a highly creative and energetic museum educator to
join its small, versatile staff.  The museum educator proposes and
implements innovative and dynamic interdisciplinary public programs for APS
Museum audiences and develops both curriculum guides and workshops for
teachers and occasional high school student outreach programs. S/he also
oversees visitor services, administers the museum guide program, and
interprets exhibitions for families, students, and adults. This position
reports to the Associate Director.

The APS Museum, located next door to Independence Hall in Philadelphia¹s
historic district, organizes exhibitions that explore the intersections of
history, art, and science and also commissions contemporary artistic
projects that interpret the exhibition themes and relate them to relevant
issues today.

*Duties*

·         Collaborate in developing interdisciplinary public programs in
conjunction with exhibitions and commissioned artist projects; implement
all public programs. Collaborate with other Philadelphia-area institutions.

·         Interpret and teach exhibition content to diverse audiences
through printed materials, family activities, and guided tours.

·         Develop and implement programs and workshops for educational
outreach; develop  curriculum guides and professional development workshops
for educators.

·         Manage visitor services and day-to-day gallery operations.
Oversee volunteer coordinator and graduate student interns; manage, hire,
and train museum guides.

·         Help evaluate public and educational programs, assist in grant
writing and reporting, and in on-the-ground and online marketing, including
social media.

*Job Requirements and Ideal Qualifications: *M.A. or Ph.D. in
humanities-based field or museum education; at least 2 years experience in
museum education or equivalent; familiarity with museum education best
practices and methodologies; knowledge of history of science or history of
art, especially 18th-19th centuries; ability to make interdisciplinary
connections among history, art, and science; excellent public speaking and
writing skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work
collaboratively as part of a small staff; strong social media and website
skills. Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Salary: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits. Preference given
to residents of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions and to applications
