MIT MUSEUM – EDUCATION ASSISTANT

The MIT Museum is seeking a temporary Education Assistant to assist the Museum’s Education Coordinator with the delivery of educational offerings for both school audiences and the Museum’s general visitors.

Responsibilities include:

– serving as a liaison to school groups; preparing and presenting educational and public programs

– developing and delivering science and engineering demonstrations to facilitate the visitor experience in the Museum’s galleries.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in education (or a related subject), science, or engineering. Experience in museum or other informal educational settings preferred. Must be flexible, detail-oriented and a team player. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and solve problems efficiently. Experience working with middle and high school students required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. Must be able to perform frequent lifting and use stairs.

Schedule varies from week to week depending on the educational and public programs scheduled; must be available to work up to 35 hours/week (with fewer hours scheduled some weeks), including weekends and occasional evenings, until June 30, 2011 (no benefits).
