Museum Educator, Early Childhood & Family Learning – Part Time

SUMMARY
The Rubin Museum of Art is a dynamic environment that stimulates learning,
promotes understanding, and inspires personal connections to the ideas,
cultures, and art of Himalayan Asia. Now in its eighth year, the museum
welcomes over 200,000 visitors annually and has over 6,000 members. The
museum’s preeminent collection includes works of art from present-day
Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, and the
Tibetan Plateau. The pace is lively with more than ten changing exhibitions
and more than 250 public programs a year.

Early Childhood and Family Learning at the Rubin Museum of Art incorporates
all family and early childhood (preschool) programs for school groups and
general public including: drop-in family workshops home school programs,
preschool group workshops, family days, birthday party workshops, and early
childhood and family resource development. The Museum Educator will work
with Education staff to gather and approve content for projects and develop
and implement programs. Program curricula will address overall Museum and
departmental goals.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 Under the direction of the Manager of Early Childhood and Family Learning,
develop, document and implement programs such as Yak Packers, Family Art
Labs, Birthday Parties, Families Days, and Preschool Workshops.
 Collaborate with Education staff to develop curricula that complement the
Rubin Museum’s collection and help families, early childhood educators, and
early learners form authentic and personal connections to the art of the
Himalayas.
 Evaluate and revise lesson plans, art-projects, and the program
activities. Conduct assessment of program effectiveness through student work
and family interaction.
 Adapt curricula to specific early childhood populations.
 Coordinate schedules and collaborate with other museum educators and
teaching artists.
 Participate in trainings related to new exhibitions.
 Maintain and organize supply inventory and request supplies as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
 B.A. required, M.A./MS.Ed preferred (in Education, Early Childhood
Education, Art Education).
 Must have experience working with young children (2-6 years of age) and
families.
 Must be available to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and some
Saturdays.

SALARY
 $13 per hour, commensurate with experience.
 20 hours per week.
