THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO is seeking a candidate who works with the Executive Director of Museum Registration and other Registrars for Loans and Exhibitions on all registration aspects of exhibitions and incoming and outgoing loans. Makes transportation arrangements and completes procedural documents including shipping orders, receipts, checklists, and loan forms. Works with the Executive Director of Museum Registration in overseeing insurance arrangements and budgets relevant to loans and exhibitions. Provides insurance, packing, transportation, and courier cost estimates to curators for use in exhibition budgeting. Oversees installations of exhibitions and the packing of art objects. Provides information to the public and other institutions about AIC collections.

Job Requirements

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE a Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in art history, museum studies or arts administration.  Must have minimum 2 years experience in art registration with progressive responsibilities and experience working with artifacts in a variety of media.  Knowledge of conservation terminology and standards and visual inspection of artwork; strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills preferred.  Must be able to work independently and with others in a fast-paced environment; possess excellent communication skills; and be proficient with collection management and other software programs (e.g. Filemaker Pro, Word, Excel).  Travel within and outside United States is required.
