The Columbia Museum of Art seeks a creative individual to manage all aspects of the museum’s permanent collection, including research and documentation of works of art, conservation, deaccessioning, and oversight of travelling exhibitions organized from the CMA collection. Consults with Chief Curator to thoughtfully grow the museum’s collection and works with museum staff to propose, organize, and develop a range of exhibitions designed to enhance the CMA’s role as a cultural leader in the Southeast. Works with Chief Curator, development department, and the director to cultivate collectors and donors. Researches and writes original scholarly and popular materials concerning collections and exhibitions.

An M.A. or Ph.D. in art history required, area of emphasis open. Additional requirements include a minimum of 3-5 years museum experience with a strong commitment to scholarship, evidence of publications and exhibition development, strong oral and written communication ability, excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work well in a team environment. The successful candidate will have an extensive knowledge of museum practices and standards, and will have an enthusiastic, positive and forward-looking personality-in short, they will be a complement to a museum team that works with purpose toward the overall enrichment of Columbia.
