JOB SUMMARY:

 

THE UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM is America’s national institution for the documentation, study, and interpretation of Holocaust history, and serves as this country’s memorial to the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust.  The Museum’s primary mission is to advance and disseminate knowledge about this unprecedented tragedy;  to preserve the memory of those who suffered; and to encourage its visitors to reflect upon the moral and spiritual questions raised by the events of the Holocaust as well as their own responsibilities as citizens of a democracy.  Visit us at www.ushmm.org.

 

 

The incumbent of this position serves as Project Manager for office-wide initiatives and other high priority projects in the National Institute for Holocaust Education (NIHE).  Activities include logistical coordination, delivery of programs and workshops, reporting, and participation in the strategic planning and development of educational programs and resources.

Works with the Institute’s senior program team to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables; develop, modify, and/or provide input to project plans; implement project plans to meet objectives; implement or maintain quality assurance processes; monitor project activities to establish benchmarks and milestones for each project and to coordinate and manage the staff and resources required to accomplish these goals.

 

Institutes a meaningful multi-year planning process that will be integrated with the budget formulation process to ensure funds are available for critical phases of the projects.

 

Plans and implements strategies and systems to insure successful coordination, integration, and completion of projects.

 

Establishes systems for monitoring project activities for achieving agreed upon milestones, verifying and validating cost projections, meeting user requirements, and delivering projected benefits.

 

Develops planning documents and schedules, budgets, milestones, systems and controls for accomplishing projects. Troubleshoots problems, keeping the senior program team informed of progress, and assures objectives are achieved.

 

Coordinates and prepares analyses, correspondence, statistical reports, briefing papers, or other data in order to communicate the goals and outcomes of the projects to internal and external constituencies.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree or a PH.D or equivalent.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and ability to perform successfully the duties for the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

 

Once the application process is complete, a review of your resume and supporting documentation will occur to determine if you meet the basic qualification requirements.  The occupational questionnaire is designed to measure your experience as it relates to the following competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities and other proficiencies (KSAs):

 

1.  Extensive knowledge of project management methods and techniques in order to manage and coordinate projects, participate in the shaping of concept and development of strategies, schedule and monitor resources, prepare scopes of work, and other perform technical and administrative aspects and phases.

 

2.  Knowledge of analytical methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria in order to assess the effectiveness of projects, resolve problems, and to propose changes to desired programs and resources.

 

3.  Knowledge of and ability to manage projects based in a variety of mediums and formats such as Web, film and video, digital, and physical exhibitions.

 

4.  Ability to communicate effectively and make oral or written recommendations and presentations to all levels of individuals or staff with the ability to convey information diplomatically and accurately.

 

5.  Knowledge and ability in managing projects based in a variety of mediums and formats such as Web, film and video and digital.

 

The next two KSAs are desirable, but not required.

 

6.  Knowledge of Holocaust history, modern genocides and international justice, and the ability to interpret and make critical judgments about its complexity and relevance for today’s world.

 

7.  Knowledge of the philosophies and theories of education in a discipline such as history, social sciences, museum studies, public history, or other appropriate liberal arts background with the ability to apply that knowledge in the design and development of museum programs.
