The Director of Marketing and Communications of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology reports to the Chief Operating Officer of the Museum, and would work strategically with Museum staff, faculty and student groups.  The director leads the department in the development and implementation of the Museum’s comprehensive marketing and communications programs that incorporate initiatives for internal and external communications, including paid and unpaid media campaigns. The director manages the Public Relations and Social Media staff, the Art Director and part-time Graphic Designer, and guides the editorial, graphic presentation, and electronic publishing services of the Museum, including the website, as well as oversees the design of Expedition magazine and the Annual Report. The director would also work closely with individuals in other Museum departments responsible for community outreach and education, visitor services, programs, rentals, events and membership.   Furthermore, the director would work collaboratively with other cultural organizations on campus, including the Institute for Contemporary Arts, the Arthur Ross Gallery, the Morris Arboretum, the Annenberg Center, etc.

Job Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field plus at least five to seven years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Progressive experience in planning and managing marketing programs, advertising, and communication.  Nonprofit and cultural experience a plus but not required.  Possess extensive media contacts (local and national).  Strong working knowledge of Web development, social media, branding.  Solid experience using social media for public relations and promotional projects.  Strong oral and written communications skills.  Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.  Ability to utilize a variety of software programs and search engines; design and desktop publishing experience preferred.
