Description

The 20th Century Fox Archives is charged with the creation and preservation of the Studio’s corporate collection, as well as administering services for the Studio’s Domestic and International Theatrical and Home Entertainment Departments. In addition to on-Lot services such as Executive Loans and displays, the Archives also works with external organizations to curate educational and informational exhibits that acknowledge and celebrate Fox’s role in the entertainment industry and the history of filmmaking.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Archive the inactive prop and set dressing assets collection, regardless of media or materials, from Fox film and television productions
  • Archive the active prop and set dressing asset collection, regardless of media or materials, from Fox film and television productions
  • Service internal and external requests pertaining to this collection including research, exhibitions and tours
  • Provide assistance and support to the other Archives collections

Essential Functions:

 

1) Inactive Collections
Archive the prop and set dressing material backlog including appraisal, processing, arrangement, cataloging, space management, administration of any associated budgets, and conservation/preservation of the assets.  Maintain a robust database database of the prop and set dressing materials.  Track environmental conditions of the collections ensuring preservation needs are met, and work with the Director to strategize basic conservation, recommending repair options where necessary.  Organize, inventory and catalog assets stored in any off-Lot locations, working directly with representatives from each to ensure proper handling and storage conditions.  Work with the Director to strategize the completion of the corporate collection by acquiring valuable and important prop or set dressing materials from Fox’s film and television legacy.  Review on a regular basis the digital components of the collection to advise the Director on migration and other preservation needs.

2) Active Collections
Track new film and television releases to ensure that the Archives has received associated materials.  Integrate new release materials into inventories and archive physical assets.

3) Service-related Duties

Administer the scheduling and tracking of the Archives’ internal and external prop and set dressing requests including research, exhibitions and tours.  Analyze and control any budgets allotted to this collection and advise the Director during new fiscal year preparations.  Participate in the creation of tours and exhibits.  Assist in various aspects of the Archives’ services including packing, unpacking and moving boxes; assembling, packing and unpacking shipping crates
assist in the creation, set-up and strike of on-Lot exhibitions.  Provide research and reference services relating to the collection.

4) Support of the Archives Collections
Work with the Director and other Archivists on projects that require additional assistance, including inventorying large collections, preparing pallets for and receiving pallets from shipments, database entry, etc.

Additional Responsibilities
Basic office work (answering phones, filing, scheduling, etc.).  Assistance when required with special projects related to any and all Archives functions.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Film or Art History
  • Post-Graduate Degree or Certification in Archival or Museum Studies strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ related Archival experience
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage various projects simultaneously and successfully
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro, Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs, climb ladders and pack and unpack boxes and crates
  • Operation of moving equipment (i.e. dollies, hand trucks, pallet jacks) and light power tools
  • Basic understanding of film production
  • Passion for materials and archival process
