Job Summary The Department of Art + Architecture at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time staff position of Administrative Director of the Master’s Program in Museum Studies, to begin July 1, 2013. We seek candidates with expertise in academic administration and museum management, who are conversant with the latest trends in the field of museum studies, to complement the Department’s and Academic Director’s strengths in art history and arts management.
Job Responsibilities • With the Academic Director, supervise support staff and office operations for the Program.
• Work in collaboration with the Academic Director to provide assistance and support to faculty.
• Initiate, develop and oversee all marketing (regional, national, international) and admissions-related publications and outreach materials.
• Supervise the processing and evaluation of graduate applications; assist the Admissions Committee in making admissions recommendations; interview and correspond with potential candidates and newly admitted students.
• Support the Outreach Coordinator with the operational aspects of the Graduate Internship program, including the building and maintenance of a database of regional, national and international contacts (professional leaders, potential internship supervisors, etc.).
• Support the Academic Director in providing day-to-day advising of students in the program. (The Academic Director will be responsible for overseeing academic advising for students in the program.)
• Teach two courses (8 units) in the program per calendar year (topics to be determined in consultation with the Academic Director; courses may be spread over the fall, spring and summer terms; only one course/4 units may be taught per semester).
• Advise and assist students in securing internship and final capstone project placements (with the Academic Director and Outreach Coordinator)
• Represent the program at informational meetings, open houses and graduate college fairs (with Academic Director, as available). Develop and provide program information to prospective applicants. Meet with prospective students and applicants who visit the University and facilitate all arrangements for their visit.
• Manage alumni tracking and alumni services for program in collaboration with Office of Alumni Relations.
• Support career counseling to students and alumni.
• Coordinate student-centered events, including symposia, speaker series, student-faculty socials & other related on- and off-campus activities.
• Initiate, design, and develop communications and publications for the program, including website construction and maintenance, Program Overviews, Student Handbooks, Program Newsletters, etc.
• In conjunction with the Admissions Committee, track and disseminate scholarship and financial aid resources on a continued basis.
• Manage the budget with the Academic Director and track all expenditures for the program.
• Supervise student assistants in collaboration with the Program Assistant.
• Other related duties, as stipulated by the Dean and Academic Director.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications include a M.A. in Museum Studies, Arts Management, M.B.A. or related degree, and a strong record of excellence in academic administration, museum management and teaching (5+ years). The successful candidate will be expected to play an important role in the administration of a new Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies at the University that will begin in August 2013. The Museum Studies Program is situated in the Department of Art + Architecture that includes undergraduate programs in art history/arts management, architecture, design, and fine arts, and within the College of Arts and Sciences. The candidate must also demonstrate a willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment and possess an understanding of, and commitment to support, the Mission of the University.
